TN CM Vijay Marks 100 Days in Office With Welfare Schemes and Loan Waivers

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday marked the completion of 100 days of governance in Chennai, highlighting a range of welfare measures, civic programmes, and investment initiatives under the theme "100 Days of Governance - A Government for Generations".

Releasing details of the administration's achievements, the Chief Minister said the primary focus has been on women's safety, farmers' welfare, youth skill development, and transparent administration.

According to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the state established the Singapenn Special Task Force for Women Safety to ensure security for women. For maternal and child welfare, the government allocated Rs 560 crore under the Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Scheme to provide a 1-gram gold ring for every newborn delivered in a government hospital. The Annan's Seer Scheme, backed by an allocation of Rs 812 crore, provides an 8-gram gold coin and a silk saree for eligible women getting married.

In education and youth support, the Vettri Skill Training Scheme delivered skill training to 12 lakh students and 1 lakh youth. The government expanded the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme with a Rs 710 crore allocation, covering an additional 15.14 lakh students in Classes 6 to 8 across 15,414 schools. Additionally, Rs 2,000 crore was earmarked under the Vettri Laptop Scheme for college students, while branded bicycles with helmets and water bottles are being distributed to Class XI students in government and government-aided schools.

For the agricultural sector, the CMO announced a Rs 6,000 crore crop loan waiver for farmers, alongside special incentives of Rs 4,000 per tonne for sugarcane and Rs 2,750 per quintal for paddy. Under social welfare and rural initiatives, the Vettri Housing Scheme received an allocation of Rs 3,500 crore, while TN-VETTRI will receive Rs 6,000 crore annually for water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, and rural connectivity. The Vettri 150 Scheme guarantees 150 days of employment, and the Vettri Magalir Goat Rearing Scheme distributes five goats or sheep to disadvantaged women and transgender individuals.

The CMO also noted that the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026 secured Rs 1 lakh crore in investment commitments. Law enforcement measures included setting up 65 special task forces under the Special Task Force for Interdiction of Narcotics and Gangs (STING) and closing 717 liquor shops near schools, temples, and bus stands. In public utilities, domestic consumers using up to 500 units every two months will receive 200 units of free electricity.
