TN Assembly Passes Anti-NEET Resolution As Lone BJP MLA Walks Out

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in Chennai passed a resolution today seeking the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical admissions in the state. The resolution demands that the central government in Delhi amend the relevant central laws to scrap the exam.

Moving the resolution in the House, Health Minister K G Arunraj stated that scrapping NEET would enable medical admissions to be carried out on the basis of 12th class marks.

The anti-NEET resolution achieved rare cross-party consensus across the Assembly floor. Political parties supporting the movement included the DMK, AIADMK, the Left parties, and the PMK.

The state's lone BJP MLA staged a walkout from the Assembly, marking the sole dissenting voice against the resolution during the House proceedings.
