Titan Web-Series Based on Chennai Journalist's Book Tops 2026 Viewership

A biographical drama web-series based on a book by Chennai journalist Vinay Kamath has become the most-viewed Indian web-series of 2026 within three weeks of its release. The show, 'Made in India: A Titan Story', which streams on Amazon MX Player, is adapted from Kamath’s December 2018 book, 'Titan: Inside India’s Most Successful Consumer Brand'.
According to a report by media consulting firm Ormax, the series has secured the top viewership spot for the year 2026. Directed by Robbie Grewal, the show stars Jim Sarbh and Naseeruddin Shah. It chronicles the journey of Titan founder Xerxes Desai and his mentor, JRD Tata, transporting viewers back to the 1970s and 1980s in Bombay where the foundations of the watch brand were laid.
Kamath, a former journalist with The Hindu BusinessLine in Chennai, expressed his delight at the adaptation's success. He spent three years researching and writing the book alongside his regular journalistic work. Kamath's book was pieced together from original conversations with the people who built Titan. Producers Sunil Bohra and Prabhleen Sandhu of Almighty Pictures approached Kamath’s publisher, Hachette, to acquire the screen rights.
"I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of emotions for it," Kamath said, reflecting on the audience's reaction. "It has been quite a revelation. The story of innovation and surpassing odds, the period setting, interspersed with old Hindi songs has gone down well with viewers."
The series highlights the struggles of establishing the brand. At the time, the archaic Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) Act prevented large business groups like the Tatas from entering watchmaking, which was reserved for the public and small-scale sectors. The company's eventual establishment was aided by Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer Iravatham Mahadevan.
Kamath, who first met Xerxes Desai in 1989, followed the company's journey closely, including its factory launch in Hosur and its failed European expansion.
