Tiruvottiyur Police Arrest Mother and Daughter for Duping Man of Rs 7 Lakh

The Tiruvottiyur police on Saturday arrested two women for allegedly cheating a local resident of ₹7 lakh under the pretext of securing a house allotment at the Urban Habitat Development Board in Tiruvottiyur.
The accused have been identified as 57-year-old Manjula and her 32-year-old daughter Aruna, both residing in Korukkupet. According to a senior official from the city police, the mother-daughter duo were active members of the TVK party’s Adi-Dravidar Welfare wing.
Police said the accused collected ₹7 lakh from Gnanaprakasam, a resident of S.K.T. Nagar Srinivasapuram in Tiruvottiyur, after promising to get a house allotted to him through Urban Habitat Housing. However, the women failed to secure the house allotment and subsequently failed to return the money.
Following the breach of promise and non-refund of the amount, the victim approached the Madras High Court and obtained an order for an arrest warrant against both accused. Based on the court order, the Tiruvottiyur police registered a case and arrested Manjula and Aruna.
