Tiruttani Murugan Temple Receives Over Rs 1 Crore and 293 Grams Gold in Aadi Offerings

The Arulmigu Subrahmanya Swamy temple in Tiruttani collected Rs 1,05,54,389 in cash alongside substantial quantities of precious metals during the recent 11-day Aadi festival, temple officials confirmed.
Devotees placed the offerings in the shrine's donation boxes over the course of the celebrations, yielding 293 grams of gold and 7,153 grams of silver in addition to the cash collections. An official noted that the surge in donations was primarily driven by the Aadi Krithigai observances and the Theppa Thiruvizha (float festival).
The collection figures reflect a heavy influx of thousands of pilgrims who arrived at the hill shrine from several districts across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states. The footfall spiked significantly for Aadi Krithigai, an annual festival dedicated to Lord Murugan that occurs when the Krithika star aligns with the Tamil month of Aadi.
According to Hindu tradition, the day commemorates Lord Murugan being nurtured by the six Krithika maidens upon his birth. Devotees visit hill shrines such as Tiruttani during this period in the belief that worship amplifies spiritual benefits, seeking blessings for courage and prosperity.
Located approximately 93 km from Chennai in Tiruvallur district, the ancient Tiruttani temple is revered as the fifth abode of Lord Murugan. It serves as a major pilgrimage destination in Tamil Nadu and is frequently visited by travellers heading towards Tirupati.
The counting of the donation boxes was conducted under the direct supervision of officials from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, temple administrators, and security personnel.
In accordance with official protocols, the collected cash was sorted, inventoried, and deposited directly into the temple's bank account. The donated gold and silver items were weighed and logged into secure vaults. High-footfall temples across the state routinely carry out structured counts following major festivals to handle volume and ensure financial transparency.
