Tirunelveli Court Extends Custody of Four Accused in Kavin Murder Case Till September 1

The Tirunelveli Second Additional District Court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of four accused, including two suspended police sub-inspectors, in the honour killing case of 24-year-old software engineer Kavin Selvaganesh till September 1.
The case came up for hearing before Judge Hema. Personnel from the CB-CID produced all four accused — Surjith, his father and suspended sub-inspector K. Saravanan, his mother and suspended sub-inspector Krishnakumari, and relative Jeyapaul — before the court via video conference.
Kavin Selvaganesh, a software engineer hailing from Thoothukudi district, was murdered in an alleged honour killing case. The CB-CID is investigating the matter and handling the court proceedings involving the accused.
During the hearing, the court was apprised of developments regarding Saravanan's legal status. Although the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had granted bail to Saravanan on June 11 in connection with the Kavin honour killing case, he was subsequently detained by the Tiruppur district police on July 20. That detention followed an alleged attempt to murder a key accused and the complainant in the murder case of Madras High Court advocate Muruganantham.
The CB-CID informed the Tirunelveli court that it has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking the cancellation of the bail previously granted to Saravanan in the Kavin murder case.
Accepting the request of the CB-CID to take Saravanan into custody in connection with the Kavin case, Judge Hema extended the judicial custody of Saravanan, Surjith, Krishnakumari, and Jeyapaul until September 1.
