Three of Madurai Family Die After Car Hits Bridge Parapet Near Villupuram

A road accident on the Chennai-Trichy national highway claimed the lives of three members of a family from Pazhanganatham in Madurai district on Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:45 AM, took place when the family's car rammed into a bridge parapet in Pedagam village near Villupuram.
The three victims who died on the spot have been identified as 63-year-old Selvam, his 55-year-old wife Selvi, and their car driver, 40-year-old Chellapandian.
Two other relatives travelling in the same vehicle sustained injuries in the crash. The injured passengers have been identified as 48-year-old Kavitha and Selvam's 30-year-old son, Praveen. Both of the injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Villupuram Government Hospital (GH) to receive medical treatment.
The family was travelling from Madurai to Chennai in their own car at the time of the accident. They were heading to Chennai to attend an engagement function.
According to the police, the accident occurred as the vehicle was crossing a bridge in Pedagam village near Villupuram. The driver, Chellapandian, attempted to overtake another vehicle on the highway, which resulted in the car ramming against the bridge parapet.
Following the fatal collision, the Villupuram police filed an official case. Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
