Three arrested with 1,200 painkiller tablets and ganja in R.K. Nagar

The R.K. Nagar police arrested three men on Friday morning, July 10, 2026, near the IOC Diesel Yard in R.K. Nagar, Chennai, for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell a large quantity of painkiller tablets and ganja. The police team seized 1,200 Tapentadol painkiller tablets, 1.5 kilograms of ganja, and an autorickshaw during the operation.
Acting on a specific tip-off regarding the transport of illegal substances, a team of police personnel from the R.K. Nagar Police Station had set up surveillance near the IOC Diesel Yard on Friday morning. During their watch, the officers intercepted an autorickshaw carrying three passengers.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the police conducted a thorough search of the autorickshaw and its occupants. The search revealed that the three men were concealing 1,200 Tapentadol tablets and 1.5 kilograms of ganja. According to the police, the seized contraband was intended for illegal sale in the local area.
The police subsequently arrested all three suspects. They were identified as 25-year-old Mohanasundaram, who also goes by the alias Barfi Mohan, residing in New Washermenpet; 30-year-old Saddam Hussain, a resident of Tondiarpet; and 25-year-old Eswaran, alias Prem, from Kargil Nagar in Tiruvottiyur.
During the post-arrest verification process, the police discovered that all three individuals have prior criminal records. Mohanasundaram alias Barfi Mohan has 11 previous criminal cases registered against him in various police stations. The other two accomplices, Saddam Hussain and Eswaran alias Prem, have four criminal cases registered against each of them.
The R.K. Nagar police seized the 1,200 Tapentadol tablets, 1.5 kilograms of ganja, and the autorickshaw used to transport the drugs as part of the evidence. The police have registered a case and a further investigation into the matter is currently under way to determine the origin of the drugs and identify any other individuals involved in the network.
