Three arrested for gangrape of 17-year-old girl in Gerugambakkam

The SRMC All Women Police on Wednesday arrested three men in connection with the gangrape of a 17-year-old girl in the Gerugambakkam area of Chennai. The arrests were made after the minor victim was hospitalized with severe stomach pain, which led to the medical confirmation of the sexual assault.

The police initially arrested Mohammed Adhvik, a 22-year-old resident of Nandambakkam. Following his arrest, Adhvik was remanded to judicial custody. During his interrogation by the police, Adhvik provided crucial information regarding the whereabouts of his accomplices who were also involved in the crime.

Based on the information obtained during the interrogation, the police tracked down and arrested the other two accused men, identified as 20-year-old Guruprasad and 21-year-old Ramesh. Both Guruprasad and Ramesh are residents of Gerugambakkam and had been on the run from the law following the incident.

According to the police investigation, the 17-year-old victim had befriended the three men through a social media platform. On Wednesday, she travelled to meet them at a spot near Kundrathur before the assault took place.

The police stated that after smoking ganja, the group travelled together to Gerugambakkam. It was at this location that the three men proceeded to sexually assault the minor girl.

The crime was uncovered after the girl complained of severe stomach pain later that day. Her mother immediately took her to a hospital for treatment. During the medical examination, the doctors confirmed that the minor had been sexually assaulted.

Following the medical confirmation, a case was officially registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The SRMC All Women Police then took over the case, leading to the swift apprehension of all three accused individuals.
