Three Arrested After Car Rams Two-Wheeler Killing 18-Year-Old Woman in Chennai

An 18-year-old Sri Lankan refugee was killed and her 17-year-old friend was critically injured in Chennai after an altercation at a private bar escalated into a fatal road rage incident. The Chennai police have arrested three young men in connection with the case and sealed the establishment for permitting underage patrons.
The deceased victim was identified as Yancy, an 18-year-old Sri Lankan refugee residing in the Villupuram district. Her 17-year-old friend, who survived the collision with critical injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Following the incident, police filed a case and arrested three suspects, identified as 21-year-old Balamurugan, 19-year-old Joshwa, and 19-year-old Kishore Kumar.
According to police reports, the conflict originated inside the private bar where Yancy and her friends were dancing. A dispute broke out between Yancy's group and another group of men. While bouncers initially intervened and brought the situation under control inside the venue, the altercation resumed outside. Bouncers stepped in a second time and instructed both groups to leave the area.
The dispute took a deadly turn a short while later on the road. While Yancy and her friends were traveling on a two-wheeler, they reportedly spotted the rival group traveling in a car. Police stated that members of Yancy's group allegedly threw stones at the car.
Enraged by the stone-throwing, the occupants of the car chased the two-wheeler and rammed into it. The impact of the crash threw Yancy off the two-wheeler, causing her to die on the spot. Her underage friend sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Following the tragedy, Yancy's family members demanded severe punishment for all the accused individuals.
In response to the incident, law enforcement officials sealed the private bar for allowing patrons under the age of 18 into the venue. The Chennai police have also formed a special team to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene and are currently on the run.
