Thanjavur CB-CID Arrests Cyber Slavery Agent Jai Alias Babu At Bengaluru Airport

The Thanjavur CB-CID police have arrested a key cyber slavery suspect, Jai alias Babu, at the Bengaluru International Airport, Tamil Nadu police announced in Chennai on Friday. Jai was detained in connection with an international cyber slavery and overseas employment fraud racket after arriving from Malaysia.

Jai, who is originally from the Theni district, had been residing in Malaysia and was intercepted by the police after a lookout circular was issued against him. According to the investigators, Jai functioned as a key recruitment agent in the illegal racket. He allegedly coordinated with operatives based in Cambodia and sold the victims to various cyber scam compounds located in Pavet, Cambodia.

The investigation into the human trafficking and cyber slavery racket stems from a complaint lodged in 2014 by a Thanjavur resident named Vettrivel. Vettrivel was among the victims who were eventually rescued from Cambodia after being lured abroad with false promises of lucrative call centre jobs.

Police investigators revealed that the first accused in the case, Sundararajulu, who was arrested earlier in October 2024, had recruited six individuals from Thanjavur. Sundararajulu allegedly offered these victims well-paid jobs in Cambodia, collected several lakhs of rupees from five of them, and subsequently arranged their travel through Jai to the overseas destination.

Upon their arrival, the victims were sent to the cyber scam compounds in Pavet, where their passports were immediately confiscated to prevent them from leaving. They were then forced to carry out online investment scams by convincing unsuspecting people to invest their money through fake Bitcoin investment applications.

The victims were reportedly subjected to severe physical and mental abuse by the handlers if they refused to participate in the scam operations. The arrest of Jai is expected to help the Thanjavur CB-CID police uncover more details about the human trafficking and cyber slavery network.
