Tata Motors targets global expansion with 3.8 billion euro Iveco acquisition

Tata Motors is preparing to expand its global commercial vehicle footprint and launch new products in India following its 3.8 billion euros acquisition of Italian truck and bus manufacturer Iveco. Speaking during a media interaction in Chennai, Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, shared that the transaction is currently on track for completion in the second quarter of FY27.
The acquisition is expected to bring significant sourcing efficiencies and new product opportunities to the Indian automotive manufacturer. The transaction is designed to enable revenue growth, operating cost savings, capital expenditure optimization, and mutual market entry for both brands. In 2025, Iveco sold approximately 140,000 vehicles globally and reported a total revenue of 13.4 billion euros. As Tata Motors prepares to integrate the Italian business, it has identified three major areas of synergy to drive value: revenue growth, operating cost savings, and capital expenditure optimization.
According to Wagh, the product portfolios and geographic footprints of the two companies are largely complementary rather than overlapping. While Tata Motors has established a strong market presence in India, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia, Iveco maintains a significant foothold in Europe and Latin America.
Wagh noted that the pricing of most Iveco products begins where Tata Motors' product range ends. This limited overlap provides scope for both companies to enter each other's markets with minimal cannibalization of their existing product lines.
Although regulatory restrictions currently prevent detailed joint planning between the two entities before the deal officially closes, Tata Motors has already identified potential revenue synergies. These plans include introducing Tata Motors trucks to Latin America through Iveco's established distribution network, as well as bringing selected Iveco products to customers in India.
