Tamil Nadu Sanctions ₹8.85 Crore to Upgrade Mortuaries Across 10 State Hospitals

Tamil Nadu Sanctions ₹8.85 Crore to Upgrade Mortuaries Across 10 State Hospitals

The Tamil Nadu government has granted approval for the construction and upgradation of mortuaries across 10 government hospitals and government medical college hospitals in the State, sanctioning ₹8.85 crore for the works.

The sanction follows an order noting that the Government of India had approved ₹16.2 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM) Record of Proceedings 2024-2026 to strengthen mortuaries in public healthcare institutions. The project was subsequently cleared by the 46th Executive Committee of the State Health Society, Tamil Nadu.

Following the clearances, the Mission Director of NHM-Tamil Nadu submitted proposals to upgrade mortuary facilities at 10 designated state-run institutions. The selected facilities include Government Headquarters Hospital in Pennagaram, Dharmapuri; Government Headquarters Hospital in Gudalur, the Nilgiris; and Government Hospital in Arakkonam, Vellore.

The works will also cover Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Government Medical College and Hospital in Villupuram, Government Medical College Hospital in Thoothukudi, and Government Medical College Hospital in Tirunelveli.

Additionally, the list includes Government Raja Mirasdar Hospital at Government Medical College in Thanjavur, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi, and Government Hospital in Srivaikundam, Thoothukudi.

Under the sanctioned distribution, allocations ranging between ₹65 lakh and ₹70 lakh each have been earmarked for the government hospitals and headquarters hospitals. Government medical college hospitals have been allotted between ₹90 lakh and ₹1.50 crore each for the infrastructure improvements.
