Tamil Nadu Police Set Up Internal Vigilance Cells Across Districts

The Tamil Nadu police department has formed internal vigilance cells across all districts and commissionerates to strengthen integrity, transparency, and public confidence in the force, according to a press release issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) office in Chennai.

The newly created cells have been established to prevent, monitor, and enquire into allegations of corruption, misconduct, abuse of position, and other unethical practices involving police personnel.

To facilitate the reporting of complaints by members of the public, designated phone and WhatsApp numbers have been allocated for each district and city commissionerate. Citizens can use these contact details to report any instance of misconduct, corruption, or abuse of authority by police officers.

The police department assured that the details and identities of all complainants will be kept strictly confidential. The release emphasized that no complainant will be subjected to any form of harassment, intimidation, or retaliation for submitting a complaint.

The DGP assured that all complaints received through these dedicated channels will be handled in a fair, impartial, and timely manner.

The functioning of the Internal Vigilance Cells will be monitored on a regular basis by senior officers, including the Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, and Additional Director General of Police across their respective jurisdictions.
