Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival 2026 Draws Over 40,000 Visitors to Chennai

The fifth Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival (TNIKF) 2026 has concluded in Chennai after drawing more than 40,000 visitors across its three-day run. The event saw a substantial increase in attendance compared to the previous edition, which recorded over 28,000 visitors.

The three-day festival showcased giant kites in an array of designs and colours, alongside demonstrations by international kite flyers. Large crowds of families and tourists attended the gathering throughout the event.

Organisers credited the successful execution of the festival to coordinated efforts among multiple agencies, including the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, police, district administration, local civic authorities, volunteers, and event management teams. Enhanced crowd-management protocols, safety measures, and upgraded visitor amenities were implemented across the venue to manage the high turnout.

Following the strong public response, organizers announced plans to expand the festival for its next edition. The upcoming event is slated to host participants from additional countries, bring in more international kite flyers, and display a broader collection of giant kites.

Organisers stated that continued development of the festival aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu's presence on the global kite flying circuit and secure TNIKF as a regular fixture on the State's annual tourism calendar. They also extended their gratitude to the residents of Chennai and visitors travelling from across Tamil Nadu and other regions for their participation.
