Tamil Nadu Announces New SIPCOT Industrial Parks and Worker Housing Projects

Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries S. Keerthana announced a series of new industrial initiatives in the State Assembly on Tuesday, including new SIPCOT industrial parks across districts and residential accommodation for industrial workers.

The Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department will construct safe residential accommodation for over 2,500 workers employed at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan under Phase II development. The project, estimated at ₹130 crore, will be executed by Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle operating through public and private participation.

Among the new industrial infrastructure projects, a SIPCOT park spanning 2,570 acres will be developed at Mudivaithanendhal in Thoothukudi at an estimated cost of ₹1,390 crore. The facility will cater to clean and renewable energy-based industries to foster sustainable green growth in southern districts and is projected to draw ₹5,000 crore in investments.

In addition, a dedicated electric vehicle manufacturing park will be established at Sillanatham in Thoothukudi across 1,294 acres. Estimated to cost ₹774 crore, the e-vehicle park is expected to attract approximately ₹7,000 crore in investments.

New SIPCOT industrial parks are also planned for Omandur in Villupuram and Lathuvadi in Namakkal. Furthermore, SIPCOT will construct a mini-textile park with ready-built factory sheds at Avudaiyarkoil in Pudukkottai, covering 2.47 acres at an outlay of ₹25 crore.

Addressing the fireworks hub of Sivakasi, which houses over 1,000 licensed units generating around ₹7,000 crore in annual revenue, the Minister announced the creation of a dedicated Sivakasi Pyrotechnics Common Facility Centre.

The State is also extending the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation’s Bill Finance Scheme to all State public sector undertakings, government departments, boards, and local bodies. The scheme, currently available to suppliers of entities such as the Greater Chennai Corporation, TANTRANSCO, TNPDCL, CMWSSB, and TWAD, will provide financial assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises submitting bills to these bodies. Around ₹600 crore in financing is expected to assist roughly 500 MSMEs in the current financial year.

To address emerging technological developments, ELCOT and TIDCO will undertake a ₹1-crore study aligned with the Central government’s National Quantum Mission to position Tamil Nadu as a quantum-safe State and secure critical digital infrastructure.
