Tambaram Police Arrest Couple in Manipur for Guduvanchery Murder

The Tambaram City Police have arrested a couple in Manipur in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old woman in Guduvanchery, whose decomposed and dismembered body parts were discovered inside a trolley bag aboard the Tamil Nadu Express earlier this month.

The suspects, identified as M. Manik Uddin Laskar of Cachar district in Assam and his wife Bhagabati Majhi of Odisha, were apprehended at Kashimpur in the Jiribam district of Manipur. The police said the two will be brought to Tambaram after securing a transit warrant.

The case emerged on August 5, when railway authorities at Agra railway station found headless human remains inside a red trolley bag in the rear general compartment of the Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express around 5 a.m. The Agra Railway Police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.

Investigators from the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force at Chennai Central subsequently reviewed CCTV footage from Platform 4, where the train had departed at around 10 p.m. on August 3. The recordings captured a man and a woman carrying a suspicious trolley bag and boarding the train.

Following the trail through several surveillance cameras, investigators traced the couple's movements back to a rented house on Masuthi Street in Guduvanchery, where they had been residing alongside another woman.

The victim was identified as Hayathun Nisha, 38, wife of Jahhur Khan and a native of Jagatsinghpur in Odisha. She had been living in Guduvanchery and working at a private firm. When police inspected the Masuthi Street house, they found the couple missing and recovered additional body parts from a cooking vessel on the premises.

Following the discovery, Tambaram City Police Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha formed a special team to track down the suspects. The team travelled to a remote area in Manipur, where they monitored movements for over a week despite heavy rains and difficult terrain before making the arrests.

Police officials stated that the motive behind the murder will be confirmed once the accused are brought to Tambaram and interrogated.
