Tambaram Corporation Invites NGO Bids For Animal Birth Control Program

The Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) has invited expressions of interest from Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) recognized non-governmental organizations to conduct animal birth control surgeries and treat sick and injured animals. The initiative aims to manage the stray animal population and improve animal welfare within the Tambaram corporation limits.

Currently, the civic body operates three animal birth control centres where birth control surgeries are conducted. Under the new arrangement, the selected non-governmental organization (NGO) will be expected to maintain an animal shelter equipped with adequate infrastructure, veterinary care, and proper records.

According to a notification issued by the Veterinary Public Health Department, the chosen organization will be responsible for executing animal birth control (ABC) surgeries. It will also run anti-rabies vaccination programmes for dogs in strict alignment with guidelines set by the AWBI and the Animal Welfare Division.

TCMC officials specified that interested organisations must hold a valid AWBI recognition certificate. Applicants are also required to have prior experience in implementing animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination drives.

Furthermore, the participating NGOs must employ qualified veterinarians, para-veterinary staff, and trained manpower, alongside possessing the necessary infrastructure. All applicants must comply with the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 and the Animal Birth Control Rules of 2023.

Once selected, the NGO will be required to provide post-operative care for sterilised animals for a minimum of five to six days, or until they achieve full recovery. The contract also mandates the organization to rescue, treat, and shelter injured animals found within the Tambaram corporation limits. The partner agency must maintain digital records of its activities and submit monthly reports to the civic body.

Proposals must be submitted in a sealed cover containing the organisation's details, experience certificates, AWBI recognition documents, and financial quotations. The last date for submission of applications is July 9.
