Suriya and Director TJ Gnanavel Reunite for New Film Launched in Chennai

A new untitled gritty drama starring actor Suriya and directed by TJ Gnanavel was officially launched with a grand muhurtha ceremony in Chennai on June 29, 2026. The project marks the first collaboration between the actor and Hombale Films, the prominent production house founded by producer Vijay Kiragandur.
The film reunites Suriya and Gnanavel after their highly successful work on 'Jai Bhim', a critically acclaimed film that earned widespread praise for its powerful social commentary and became one of the most celebrated Indian films of recent years. Gnanavel most recently directed 'Vettaiyan', which starred Rajinikanth.
Actress Kayadu Lohar has been cast to play the female lead in the upcoming project. The makers have described the untitled film as a gritty drama that blends emotionally driven storytelling with commercial appeal.
Speaking about the new collaboration, Hombale Films founder Vijay Kiragandur expressed his vision for the project. He stated that powerful cinema is born when passionate people come together with a shared vision. He added that collaborating with Suriya and Gnanavel is a step towards telling an honest, meaningful story that will connect with audiences across the world.
The project represents a significant milestone for Hombale Films, which is the production house behind blockbuster franchises such as 'K.G.F.', 'Kantara', and 'Salaar'. In announcing the film, the production house paid tribute to Suriya’s decades-long career in cinema, highlighting the two-time National Award-winning actor's versatile performances, socially relevant roles, and his ability to balance mainstream entertainers with critically acclaimed films while also establishing himself as a successful producer.
The film features a technical crew consisting of Sai Abhyankkar, who is composing the music, and S.R. Kathir, who is serving as the cinematographer. K. Kathir is handling the production design, and Philomin Raj is editing the project.
The formal launch ceremony in Chennai was attended by the cast, crew, and several members of the film industry. Principal photography for the film is expected to begin soon.
