SRMIST Holds 22nd Convocation at Kattankulathur Campus Near Chennai

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 22nd Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) at Kattankulathur near Chennai on Sunday, urging graduating students to apply their knowledge, innovation, and skills toward nation-building under the principle of "Nation First – Rashtra Pratham".

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-President said strategic technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, robotics, and biotechnology will play a critical role in shaping future economies and societies. He emphasised that research achieves its highest purpose when it serves society and is translated into practical solutions that improve lives.

He highlighted the broader growth of India's higher education sector since 2014, noting the country now houses over 1,425 universities, 54,000 colleges, and 16,850 standalone institutions. He also pointed out the rise in women's enrolment in higher education, which grew from 1.57 crore in 2014-15 to 2.24 crore in 2023-24. Additionally, he recalled India's Covid-19 vaccine assistance to more than 100 nations.

During the event, the Vice-President presented an honorary degree to R. Velusamy, President of Automotive Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and conferred medals and degrees upon graduating students. He also administered the "Say No to Drugs" pledge to attendees.

The convocation was attended by Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, SRMIST Chancellor T.R. Paarivendhar, and other dignitaries.

Across all campuses, 11,684 graduates were eligible for degrees this year under the faculty of engineering and technology. For the Kattankulathur and Vadapalani campuses, a total of 8,084 degrees were conferred, comprising 7,926 undergraduate and postgraduate students alongside 158 PhD scholars. In addition, 147 rank medallists were honoured for securing the top three ranks in their respective academic programmes.
