SPCSS-TN Urges Chief Minister to Withdraw Directive on Protesting Students

The State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-T.N.) has urged the Chief Minister to declare the Chief Secretary's directive to surveil protesting youth null and void, and to direct the Public Department to immediately withdraw the letter.

In a formal communication addressed to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in Chennai, the organisation sought the minutes of the July 28 law and order review meeting, which discussed the participation of students and youth in protests. The organisation also requested that the Chief Minister present the accurate facts regarding the matter before the Legislative Assembly.

The demand follows State government circulars issued to colleges and universities directing them to prevent students from participating in protests organised by Left parties and the Cockroach Janta Party.

SPCSS-T.N. General Secretary P.B. Prince Gajendra Babu stated that recent remarks by Ministers in the Legislative Assembly made it evident that the Cabinet was not kept informed of a major decision taken during the review meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary.

The letter highlighted parliamentary governance principles, noting that the elected executive and Council of Ministers guide the bureaucracy. Because the Council of Ministers is answerable to the legislature and the public, it must be informed of every government action.

According to SPCSS-T.N., the Chief Secretary failed to keep the Council of Ministers informed of decisions taken during the July 28 review meeting. Citing this administrative lapse, the platform reiterated its call for the Chief Minister to intervene and direct the Public Department to withdraw the circular.
