Southern Railway Announces Train Service Changes on Tambaram Route

Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to suburban train services connecting Tambaram, Chennai Beach, Chengalpet, and nearby destinations from August 25 to September 7. The modifications are being implemented due to redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore railway station, where a five-hour line and power block will be enforced from 11.15pm to 4.15am to facilitate the launching of foot overbridge girders.

Under the revised plan, four Chennai Beach to Tambaram EMU services departing at 10.20pm, 11.20pm, 11.40pm, and 11.59pm will be fully cancelled on weekdays between August 25 and September 5.

Several other weekday services will be partially cancelled during this timeframe, short-terminating at Tambaram instead of running all the way to Chennai Beach. These include the Tirumalpur to Chennai Beach service departing at 8pm, the Guduvancheri to Chennai Beach services at 10.15pm and 11.20pm, and the Chengalpet to Chennai Beach services at 10.20pm and 11pm.

Additionally, from August 26 to September 7, the Chennai Beach to Chengalpet EMU scheduled to depart at 3.50am will be partially cancelled between Chennai Beach and Tambaram on weekdays.

Two train timings have also been rescheduled. The Chennai Beach to Guduvancheri service scheduled for 9.45pm will now depart at 9.50pm, while the Chennai Beach to Chengalpet train scheduled for 10.20pm will leave earlier at 10.15pm.

Further disruptions are scheduled on August 30 and September 6, when seven EMU services will be completely cancelled. The fully cancelled services on these dates include the Chennai Beach to Tambaram trains at 10pm, 11.20pm, 11.40pm, and 11.59pm; the Tirumalpur to Chennai Beach train at 8pm; and the Tambaram to Chennai Beach trains at 11pm and 11.40pm. On these two specific days, three additional services will be partially cancelled and three will be rescheduled.

Southern Railway has advised daily commuters and passengers travelling along the Tambaram and Chengalpet sections to review the altered timings and plan their journeys accordingly.
