Singer Susha Launches Independent Album Love Language With Performance at Medai

Chennai-based singer Susha marked the launch of her debut independent full-fledged music album, Love Language, with a live performance at Medai in Chennai last week. The release event included a stage performance featuring several of her musical collaborators and the screening of a music video shot specifically for the album.
The 12-track album represents a blend of diverse musical influences, ranging from jazz and folk to Tamil melodies. While predominantly written in English, the album includes three Tamil songs. Susha described the two-year journey of putting her time, focus, and money into the project as an act of self-care and love toward herself.
To record the album, Susha initially booked a studio for 12 days to record tracks featuring herself and her guitar. After reviewing the initial recordings, she invited a group of guest musicians to collaborate on the project. The featured artists on Love Language include percussionist Praveen Sparsh, violinist Sayee Rakshith, strings artist Rithu Vysakh, and New York-based bassist Eduardo Belo. The album's tracklist includes songs such as the melancholic "Different," the upbeat jazz-inspired "Choosing," and "Be Still."
Susha’s musical background spans over two decades of Carnatic music training, beginning in her youth when she sang the invocation at the album launch of her mother, Carnatic singer Lakshmi Rangarajan. She later earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto.
Over her career, Susha has worked across multiple genres, contributing playback vocals to songs such as "Agam Thaanai" from the film Sillu Karupatti and composing the score for the film Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu. She has also collaborated with artists Pradeep Kumar and Sean Roldan, as well as musical groups including Yodhakaa, Poorvaa, and the music collective Band Cooum.
Love Language, which features Susha's pet dogs on its cover, is currently available for streaming on Spotify.
