Singer Jonita to make acting debut with cameo in Tamil film Idhayam Murali

Singer Jonita is set to make her acting debut with a cameo appearance in the upcoming Tamil romantic comedy film Idhayam Murali in Chennai. The singer's transition to the screen was revealed following the release of the film's trailer, which features actor Atharvaa headlining the project.

The upcoming film stars Atharvaa alongside female leads Kayadu Lohar and Preity Mukhundhan. The cast also includes Instagram influencer Niharika NM in an important role, as well as actor Fahad Faasil in a cameo appearance.

Speaking about her decision to join the project, Jonita stated that she connected with the sincerity of the story and the way her character was presented. She noted that she did not want to take on an acting role just for the sake of it, finding this specific opportunity organic while trusting the production team's vision.

Jonita explained that communicating emotions in front of a camera shared similarities with her music career, as both aim to make the audience feel something. However, she pointed out that while singing relies heavily on the voice, acting often requires conveying messages through small expressions or silence. She described this transition as a significant learning experience in communicating with subtlety.

The singer also shared her experience on the film set, describing the atmosphere as welcoming and supportive. Despite facing language challenges, Jonita insisted on dubbing her own voice for the character and worked to sound as authentic as possible. She credited her multilingual musical background with helping her understand the cultural and emotional nuances required for a Tamil film.

Jonita noted that performing on stage helped build her confidence and comfort in front of people, but she described acting as an entirely different craft. While stage performances involve projecting energy to thousands of people, camera work is more intimate and internal.

She also highlighted the collaborative nature of filmmaking compared to a recording studio. In a studio, the process typically involves only the singer, composer, lyricist, and the music. In contrast, acting requires multiple departments, including the director, co-actors, and cinematographer, to come together to tell a story.

While Jonita's character appears briefly, she expressed hope that audiences would connect with the honesty of her performance. She remains open to future acting opportunities if the right projects emerge, though she emphasized that music will always remain her first love.
