Seven Arrested in Tiruneermalai for Murder of History-Sheeter

The Sankar Nagar police on Saturday arrested seven people in connection with the murder of 40-year-old history-sheeter K Anbazhagan, also known as Myna Kutty, who was hacked to death in broad daylight near Tiruneermalai on Friday morning.

The arrested individuals were identified as M Rajkumar, 23, R Venus alias Balachandran, 48, A Vimal, 26, S Mukeshkanna, 24, K Vishnukumar, 21, V Karthikeyan, 23, and J Hariharan, 29. Following their arrest, all seven accused were remanded in judicial custody.

According to the police, the fatal attack took place while Anbazhagan was speaking with his friends near a DMK office in Tiruneermalai. A six-member gang armed with machetes ambushed and attacked him before fleeing the scene using motorcycles and an autorickshaw. Anbazhagan sustained fatal injuries in the assault.

Investigators revealed that both Venus and Anbazhagan had a history together, having been involved in a 2021 murder case that was allegedly linked to a land dispute. Both individuals were engaged in the real estate business. Police suspect that Venus developed animosity toward Anbazhagan over the latter's growing business ventures, which ultimately led to the fatal attack.

Police records show that Anbazhagan had 14 criminal cases registered against him, including two murder cases. Following the incident on Friday, the police registered a murder case and launched a search, leading to the apprehension and custody of the seven suspects.
