Saidai Duraisamy Urges Inclusion of Health and Medical Sciences in School Curriculum

Former Chennai Mayor and Manidhaneyam Trust Chairman Saidai Duraisamy met with former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) director Mylswamy Annadurai on Friday to request the integration of comprehensive health and medical topics into the school education syllabus.

Annadurai currently serves as the Chairman of the School Education Curriculum Design Committee. During the meeting, Duraisamy sought the inclusion of topics covering physical health, health care, medical sciences, and nutrition in the curriculum, including both AYUSH and evidence-based practices in modern medicine.

According to a release, introducing these topics to the school syllabus is expected to educate students early, helping prevent adolescent children from turning to drugs and reducing the risk of long-term addiction.

Duraisamy also recommended that medical science experts and scholars from various disciplines be inducted into the committee responsible for designing the new school curriculum.
