S Muthusamy Defends DMK Criticism of TVK Government Over Murders and Sexual Violence

ERODE — Former DMK minister S Muthusamy has defended his party's decision to criticize the newly formed TVK government, asserting that the political opposition cannot remain silent on critical public safety issues such as murders and sexual violence.

Speaking to reporters in Erode on Wednesday, Muthusamy addressed the shift in his party's approach. The DMK had previously declared that it would allow the new TVK administration to function without any political interference for its first six months in power. However, Muthusamy explained that immediate concerns regarding local crimes necessitated a swift response.

The former minister made these remarks after garlanding the statue of the late DMK leader M Karunanidhi to mark his 103rd birth anniversary.

During the press interaction, Muthusamy also revealed that the DMK has initiated a detailed internal review following its recent electoral setbacks. He explained that the party is currently studying the specific reasons behind its defeat to ensure that all mistakes and organizational shortcomings are clearly identified and addressed.

Muthusamy pointed to several landmark welfare schemes introduced under the DMK administration, which were designed to support the public. These initiatives included the Rs 1,000 monthly assistance for women's rights, free bus travel for women, school breakfast programmes, and financial support for higher education.

Despite the implementation of these welfare measures, voters chose to support the TVK in the recent elections. Muthusamy noted that the electorate must reflect on why they voted differently, though he expressed confidence that people are now beginning to realize the true value of the DMK's welfare schemes.

Addressing rumors of political instability, the former minister dismissed any speculation about potential defections within his party's ranks. He assured reporters that all DMK legislators remain loyal to the party.
