Raised Manhole Cover on Bazullah Road in T Nagar Poses Hazard to Commuters

A manhole cover jutting approximately five inches above the road surface has turned into a major accident hazard on the busy Bazullah Road in T Nagar, posing serious risks to motorists, cyclists, and two-wheeler riders.

The danger of the uneven structure was highlighted on Friday when a cyclist riding ahead of a car struck the raised cover. The impact caused the cyclist to lose balance and fall onto the road directly in front of the following vehicle. The car driver managed to apply the brakes in time, narrowly averting a major collision.

The issue stems from the improper installation of the manhole cover. Rather than being laid flush with the surrounding asphalt, the lid sticks out prominently above the road level. While larger cars with sufficient ground clearance might pass over the obstacle without damaging their undersides, commuters on two wheels and bicycles face severe vulnerability.

Local residents and visitors have expressed concern over the persistent danger. A customer at the nearby Lakshmi Coffee reported witnessing another incident where a two-wheeler rider tripped over the protruding structure the previous night. Locals warned that the raised lid will lead to further accidents, particularly during rainy conditions when visibility decreases and water covers the road.

Bazullah Road previously experienced regular waterlogging before a new drainage link was constructed a few years ago. The newly raised manhole cover appears to have been put in place as a replacement after an older lid was damaged.

Until civic authorities rectify the alignment and level the cover with the road surface, the faulty installation continues to pose an ongoing threat to daily traffic along the busy stretch.
