Qube Cinema to Expand EPIQ Large-Format Footprint to 30 Screens Across India

Chennai-based digital cinema technology company Qube Cinema has announced plans to expand its proprietary premium large-format brand, EPIQ, to 30 screens across the country over the next three years.
The upcoming EPIQ screens will feature advanced projection and sound technologies, integrating both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The EPIQ network currently operates around 12 screens and is aiming to reach approximately 20 screens by the end of the year, according to Senthil Kumar V, co-founder of Qube Cinema.
Premium large format, or PLF, refers to auditoriums featuring larger screens, advanced projection systems, and immersive viewing setups. The format competes in the premium cinema space alongside brands such as IMAX and PVR’s PXL.
Kumar stated that growing consumer demand for elevated audiovisual experiences is driving the company's expansion plans. He noted that the company expects adoption to come initially from individual cinema exhibitors before expanding into national theatre chains.
According to Kumar, moviegoers are showing an increased willingness to visit theatres when offered a premium viewing environment, extending beyond high-budget blockbusters to smaller, more intimate films. He highlighted that premium screens generally register higher occupancy rates and stronger per-screen earnings, supported by sustained demand and premium ticket pricing.
Kumar added that viewer interest in premium theatre experiences remains steady throughout the year, driven by a consistent slate of major film releases and unexpected theatrical hits. While EPIQ screens previously featured Dolby Atmos sound, the integration of Dolby Vision has now been introduced to enhance picture brightness and contrast levels.
