Puzhal Prison Officials Foil Rupees One Crore Plot To Kill Rowdy Vellai Kali

Prison officials at the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai foiled a ₹1 crore conspiracy to murder a notorious rowdy named Vellai Kali inside the jail on Sunday. Following the discovery of the assassination plot, prison authorities immediately transferred four inmates who were involved in the conspiracy to other central prisons in Tamil Nadu.
According to prison sources, authorities received crucial intelligence regarding a deal to murder Vellai Kali inside the prison. The subsequent inquiry revealed that a ₹1 crore deal had been struck to execute the murder, with a sum of ₹25 lakh reportedly paid in advance to carry out the killing.
The intelligence-led probe revealed that Lali Manikandan, a rowdy hailing from Kumbakonam in Thanjavur, had conspired with three other convicts to execute the attack. The other three conspirators were identified as Ajay, Sivalaperi, and Rehman, who are convicts from the southern districts of the state.
The four men had planned to attack and kill Vellai Kali at an isolated spot inside the Puzhal Central Prison on Sunday. However, alert prison officials intervened after receiving the intelligence. The officials separated the four inmates and questioned them individually, which successfully brought the entire murder conspiracy to light.
Following the inquiry, the prison administration took swift action to separate the conspirators and prevent further security risks. Lali Manikandan was transferred to the Salem Central Prison. Meanwhile, the other three inmates—Ajay, Sivalaperi, and Rehman—were shifted to the Cuddalore Central Prison.
The target of the plot, Vellai Kali, is a notorious rowdy originally from Madurai. He is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in a ganja trafficking case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Senior officials from the prison department have now launched a detailed investigation into the conspiracy to uncover more details about the foiled attack.
