Pulianthope police team attacked by relatives of history-sheeter during ganja raid

A Basin Bridge police team conducting a ganja raid in Gandhi Nagar Fifth Street, Pulianthope, Chennai, was attacked by the relatives of an arrested history-sheeter on Sunday. The confrontation occurred when officers attempted to take the suspect into custody after seizing narcotics from his residence.
The police team, led by sub-inspector Krishnakumar, initiated the raid on the house of 26-year-old Nandakumar, who is listed as a history-sheeter by the police. The operation was launched after the department received a tip-off regarding the active sale of ganja in the Pulianthope area.
During the search of the premises, officers discovered and seized 29 packets of ganja, which weighed a total of 10 grams. In addition to the drugs, the team also recovered six syringes from the house.
According to police reports, women inside the house initially objected to the search and attempted to prevent the officers from carrying out the raid. Once the search was completed and Nandakumar was placed under arrest, his mother and other female relatives physically assaulted the policemen to stop them from taking him away.
The police officers had to use force to protect themselves and bring the situation under control. Nandakumar was successfully secured and taken to the Basin Bridge police station. A video showing the assault on the police team went viral on social media on Monday.
Following the arrest, Nandakumar’s mother, Meena, went to the Basin Bridge police station to demand her son's release. While inside the station premises, she engaged in a heated argument with the officers and injured her own wrist with a razor blade during the protest.
In response to the violence, the police have registered a separate case against Nandakumar’s relatives for obstructing and assaulting police personnel during the raid. Further investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
