PSG College of Technology Marks 75 Years at Foundation Day Event in Coimbatore
PSG College of Technology celebrated its foundation day and marked 75 years of excellence in technical education at an event held in Coimbatore, where students were urged to contribute toward India's transition into a product-driven, developed economy.
Chief guest Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, chairman of Axilor Ventures, and trustee of Pratiksha Trust and Pratithi Investment Trust, addressed the gathering. He emphasised that India is on track to become the default global destination for research and development services as well as advanced technology solutions.
Describing education, research, innovation, and incubation as the four pillars of a future-ready institution, Gopalakrishnan urged students to build their careers on ethics and trust, and called upon graduating engineers to play an active role in national economic development.
G.R. Karthikeyan, founder trustee and chairman of PSG & Sons' Charities, released the platinum jubilee souvenir during the event.
Presiding over the ceremony, L. Gopalakrishnan, managing trustee of PSG & Sons' Charities, paid tribute to the founder-principal of the college, Prof. G.R. Damodaran, and his academic vision. He encouraged faculty and students to strengthen interdisciplinary research and industry collaboration while reiterating the institution's philosophy of honouring the past, strengthening the present, and shaping the future.
Dr G. Thilagavathi, principal of PSG College of Technology, detailed the institution's recent milestones across research, doctoral education, funded projects, infrastructure expansion, student placements, and academic and co-curricular achievements during its platinum jubilee year.
The institution also presented the Distinguished Alumni Awards 2026 to five alumni for their professional accomplishments: Surya Prakash Kolluri, head of TIAA Institute in Boston; Savithri Seetharaman, vice president at Texas Instruments in Bengaluru; Girish Ramachandran, president of growth markets at Tata Consultancy Services in Singapore; Babu Krishnasamy, founder and CEO of Kanini in Nashville; and A. Sivagnanam, IAS, commissioner of disaster management for the Government of Tamil Nadu.
