Private Medical Colleges in TN Pitch MBBS Pre-Bookings Ahead of Counselling

Several private medical colleges across Tamil Nadu have come under scrutiny for pitching and offering pre-booked MBBS seats to candidates ahead of official counselling rounds, bypassing the regulated medical admissions process.
Institutions have been conducting discreet on-campus consultations with parents and applicants, offering incentives such as fee discounts and scholarships. As part of these arrangements, candidates are instructed to enter their names into a register and exclusively lock choices for colleges affiliated with the respective universities during the upcoming counselling process.
R. Elangovan, whose nephew is currently seeking admission, stated that families were advised by institutions to lock specific college choices in round two and attempt other colleges in subsequent rounds if they were not allotted seats.
While such practices were previously confined to private campus visits, institutions have now started promoting them publicly. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Research and Technology released advertisements on social media platforms, including Instagram, urging aspirants to pre-book MBBS seats ahead of round two.
When inquiries were made via the phone number listed on the Instagram advertisement, a representative from the admissions department of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital confirmed that admissions could be secured at their medical colleges located in Perambalur or Samayapuram. The representative instructed candidates to bring their NEET admit cards and scorecards directly to the college campus for further discussions.
