Police Seize 1,605kg Banned Tobacco Near Velachery Main Road Junction, Arrest 3

Three men were arrested on Wednesday after police seized 1,605 kg of banned tobacco products, including gutka and pan masala, near the Velachery Main Road–Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram Radial Road junction in Pallikaranai.

The seizure occurred during routine patrol duties when police officers spotted a parked vehicle near the key junction connecting Velachery Main Road and the Radial Road.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the tempo traveller and an accompanying autorickshaw, law enforcement officers discovered the large consignment of prohibited gutka and pan masala concealed within the vehicles.

Police identified the three arrested individuals as 37-year-old Ramarajan, 38-year-old Nandakumar, and 19-year-old Subham.

According to police officials, the trio had brought the banned consignment into the city from a neighbouring state. They had been using the tempo traveller alongside the autorickshaw to transport and distribute the contraband to local networks.

A criminal case was formally registered against all three men following the search and seizure. They were subsequently produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
