Police Detain 50 DMK Protesters In Vepery Over Sarathkumar White Powder Video

Chennai Police on Monday detained at least 50 DMK workers during a road blockade protest at Doveton in Vepery. The demonstrators gathered to demand legal action against TVK minister Sarathkumar over a viral video that showed him handling a white powder.
The protest, which disrupted traffic in the Doveton area for a brief period, was led by former Tamil Nadu minister PK Sekarbabu and Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya. A large number of DMK workers participated in the demonstration.
The public demonstration followed the online circulation of a video showing Sarathkumar watching an IPL match in 2025. In the video, he was seen using a debit card to crush a white powder.
Sarathkumar responded to the controversy by explaining that the substance in the video was a tablet. He stated that he had crushed the tablet to administer it to his sick child.
Despite his explanation, DMK workers demanded legal action against the TVK minister and organised the road blockade.
Because police had denied permission for the protest, officers prevented the demonstration from continuing. Police personnel detained at least 50 of the participants and dispersed the gathering before removing them from the venue in Vepery.
