Police Detain 10 and Seize Five High-End Bikes After Race Near Arumbakkam

The Greater Chennai City Traffic Police detained 10 people and seized five high-end motorbikes after a bike race resulted in an accident near Arumbakkam on Saturday night, August 29, 2026. The individuals and their seized vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation Wing police station for legal proceedings.
According to a senior traffic police official, the accident occurred along the 100-feet road near Arumbakkam. A motorist named Kumar was travelling on a two-wheeler towards Koyambedu along with his wife and their one-year-old child when the incident took place.
During the journey, a speeding motorbike approaching from behind grazed Kumar's two-wheeler. The collision caused Kumar to lose balance, leading to him, his wife, and their one-year-old child falling to the ground and sustaining minor injuries. Local residents who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the traffic control room.
Acting on the alert, the Koyambedu traffic police and the Choolaimedu patrol police conducted vehicle checks on Sunday, August 30. During the operation, officers intercepted five two-wheelers that were involved in speeding.
Police officers conducted an inquiry and determined that the intercepted motorists were the individuals who had participated in the bike race and caused the road accident injuring the family.
Following the inquiry, the police detained 10 persons involved in the bike race and confiscated the five high-end two-wheelers. The traffic police filed a case and transferred the detained individuals along with the seized motorcycles to the Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation Wing police station for further action.
The Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation police have registered a case regarding the incident and are conducting an ongoing investigation.
