Police Constable Stabbed at Poraiyar Polling Booth, Retired Serviceman Arrested

A police head constable deployed on security duty was stabbed and seriously injured at a polling booth in Poraiyar, located within the Mayiladuthurai Assembly constituency, during the Tamil Nadu state election polling on Thursday.
The incident took place at Booth No. 324, situated at the Jamaliya Middle School in Poraiyar. Voting at the school had been underway at a brisk pace since 7:00 AM on Thursday morning. According to election officials, the voter turnout at this specific booth had reached 36.65 percent by 11:00 AM.
The injured policeman has been identified as Vignesh, a head constable attached to the nearby Kuthalam police station. Vignesh was on active security duty at the Jamaliya Middle School booth when a man suddenly approached him and launched an attack using a small knife. The assailant allegedly inflicted multiple serious stab injuries on Vignesh’s neck and both of his hands.
Immediately after the knife attack, the injured head constable was rushed to the Government Hospital in Poraiyar for emergency medical attention. Doctors at the hospital administered stitches to his wounds, and his medical condition is currently reported to be stable.
The police identified the accused attacker as Prabhakaran, a retired serviceman from Kattucheri. A preliminary inquiry conducted by the authorities revealed that Prabhakaran allegedly bore a deep resentment towards police personnel. Investigators also found that he had been involved in a similar physical assault on another policeman a few years ago.
Following the incident, the Poraiyar police arrested Prabhakaran and registered a formal case against him. A further investigation into the knife attack is currently being conducted by the local police.
