POCSO accused Raja of Pudur recaptured in Villivakkam after escaping Stanley Hospital

A 21-year-old POCSO case accused who escaped from police custody at Stanley Government Hospital on Wednesday night was recaptured by the police at a shop near Villivakkam on Thursday.

The accused, Raja of Pudur, was originally arrested by the Ambattur All Women Police on June 15 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following his arrest, he was remanded to judicial custody at the Puzhal prison.

On Wednesday, Raja complained of stomach pain, after which he was brought to the Stanley Government Hospital under an armed police escort to undergo medical treatment. While waiting near the emergency ward of the hospital, the accused requested water.

One of the guarding constables left the spot to purchase a water bottle from a nearby canteen. Raja then distracted the attention of the remaining policeman guarding him and managed to flee from the hospital premises.

Following the escape, a complaint was filed, and the Washermenpet police registered a case. A search was launched immediately to trace the escaped prisoner.

The search ended on Thursday when police tracked Raja to a shop near Villivakkam, where he was apprehended and taken back into custody.
