Part-Time Teachers Express Disappointment Over Assembly Omission

The Part Time Teachers Association expressed disappointment on Monday after School Education Minister Rajmohan made no announcement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly regarding the long-pending regularisation of part-time teachers in Chennai and across the state.

In a statement, the association said the hopes of thousands of part-time teachers, who were awaiting a clear announcement to fulfill the promise made in the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam election manifesto, have not yet been met.

The association also raised concerns over the Minister's announcement that new teachers will be appointed through examinations to fill 2,700 vacant physical education teacher positions.

Highlighting their current plight, the association stated that more than 3,500 physical education teachers have already been working as part-time teachers for the past 15 years. They noted that the decision to conduct new appointments raises fears among existing staff that the government has abandoned them.

Following the Assembly session, the association urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action to make permanent approximately 11,733 part-time teachers currently employed in special subjects, including physical education.
