Pallavaram Woman Kills Father-In-Law During Attempted Sexual Assault

A 28-year-old widow killed her 58-year-old father-in-law in self-defense after he broke into her room and attempted to sexually assault her near Pallavaram, on the outskirts of Chennai, in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the police, the deceased man was identified as Perumal, a 58-year-old fish vendor.
The woman had been living at the residence with her eight-year-old daughter, her father-in-law, and her mother-in-law. Her husband had passed away due to an illness three months prior to the incident.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that Perumal had been sexually harassing the woman for some time. The harassment included making inappropriate remarks and making unwanted physical advances toward her.
The woman had previously informed her mother-in-law about Perumal's behavior. This revelation led to frequent arguments between the older couple. Following one such quarrel, the mother-in-law left the house a few days ago to stay with her relatives, leaving the woman and her eight-year-old daughter alone in the home with Perumal.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Perumal forced his way into the room where the woman and her daughter were sleeping and attempted to sexually assault her.
During the ensuing struggle, the woman managed to push Perumal to the ground. She then picked up a sickle that was inside the house and slit his throat.
The Chennai police are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the death of Perumal and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
