Palaniswami Urges CM Vijay to Revive Nadanthai Vazhi Cauvery Project

On Thursday, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami issued a statement in Chennai urging Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to implement the previously shelved Nadanthai Vazhi Cauvery project. Palaniswami stated that reviving the infrastructure initiative is crucial as it would benefit farmers and significantly improve the drinking water supply in approximately 12 districts across the western and delta regions of the state.
In his statement, the AIADMK leader blamed the previous DMK government for shelving the flagship project of the former AIADMK administration. According to Palaniswami, the DMK government failed to pursue the project despite the state already securing the necessary environmental clearance and receiving approval from the Union government.
Palaniswami provided details on the financial arrangements of the project, noting that the Centre had already sanctioned Rs 935 crore as the first instalment. This funding was allocated under a 60:40 Centre-state funding pattern. Despite these secured funds, the previous DMK administration did not move forward with the work.
Addressing the current administration, Palaniswami urged the TVK government, which took power after promising "change," to actively take up the project. He called on Chief Minister Vijay to work with the support of the Union government to ensure the early implementation of the project for the welfare of the public and the farming community.
The AIADMK general secretary also criticized the Chief Minister's current focus, suggesting that Vijay should concentrate on executing this major project rather than engaging in political maneuvering. Palaniswami accused the Chief Minister of focusing on the "horse-trading" of MLAs and trying to safeguard his government.
Additionally, Palaniswami took a swipe at Vijay’s leadership style, accusing the Chief Minister of concentrating on punch dialogues and "reels" instead of focusing on actual governance for the state of Tamil Nadu.
