Palani Police Probe Rs 100 Crore Mutt Land Fraud

The Palani Adivaram police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched a formal investigation into the alleged fraudulent registration of a 1.4-acre land parcel worth approximately Rs 100 crore. The land belongs to the Arulmigu Dhandayudapani Swami mutt in Palani.

The police action was initiated following a formal complaint filed on Friday by a trustee of the temple administration at the Palani Adivaram police station. The complaint was registered against four individuals, including two private individuals in whose names the land was allegedly registered.

According to the temple administration's complaint, the prime land belonging to the mutt was illegally registered in favour of these private individuals. The complaint further alleged that this transaction was carried out in direct violation of standing court orders regarding the property.

Following the receipt of the complaint, the police registered cases under five distinct sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include charges for cheating and forgery.

An investigation team, led by Palani Adivaram Police Inspector Kavitha and an accompanying sub-inspector, visited the Palani Sub-Registrar's Office to probe the matter. During the visit, the team examined the specific circumstances under which the disputed sale deed was registered.

The investigating officers questioned the officials and staff of the registration department who were present. They also scrutinized various documents and records connected to the land transaction.

A police officer confirmed that they have sought additional records relevant to the transaction from the authorities. The officer stated that further legal action will be taken after completing a thorough examination of these documents.

In the wake of these developments, the registration department has stated that it is unable to cancel a registered deed, leaving the resolution of the dispute to the ongoing legal and police proceedings.
