Over 7,000 runners to participate in Dream Runners Half Marathon on July 19

Over 7,000 runners are preparing to participate in the 15th edition of the Dream Runners Half Marathon in Chennai on Sunday, July 19. The flagship 21.1km race category is scheduled to be flagged off at 4:30 AM from Napier’s Bridge by P Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the T Nagar district of the Greater Chennai City Police.
Following the start of the half marathon, the 10km race category will begin at 5:15 AM from the same starting point at Napier’s Bridge. K Bhavaneeswari, the Inspector General of Police for the Singapenn Special Force, will flag off the 10km runners.
The marathon route is designed to take the participants through several key areas of the city. From the starting line at Napier’s Bridge, the runners will proceed along the Marina stretch, passing through Santhome, crossing the Adyar Flyover, and moving through Besant Nagar. The entire race will eventually conclude at Island Ground.
In preparation for the Sunday races, organisers scheduled the Dream Runners Half Marathon Expo to take place at the R K Convention Centre, located in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, Neelankarai. Registered participants can attend the expo between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM to collect their official race BIBs and complimentary goodie bags.
The 15th edition of the event, which features The Times of India as its official media partner, will also include a special ceremony to felicitate Olympian Vasudevan Bhaskaran, who is a former captain and coach of the Indian hockey team.
In addition to the athletic competition, the Dream Runners Half Marathon is dedicated to supporting three major charitable initiatives. The event will help fund the provision of prosthetic limbs to amputees through the Freedom Trust. It will also support the supply of pressure garments to women survivors of burns and acid attacks. Finally, the event will assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Vijay Human Services.
