Over 5,800 Participate in Made of Chennai Run at Island Grounds

More than 5,800 runners and walkers gathered at Island Grounds on Sunday for The Hindu Made of Chennai Run, organised to celebrate the city's active lifestyle, spirit, and culture. The event featured three distinct categories: 10-km and 5-km runs, alongside a 1-km sari walk.

The 10-km and 5-km races were flagged off in the presence of former Indian hockey captain Vasudevan Baskaran, Olympian Nethra Kumanan, and V.P. Jeyaseelan, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). Several corporate leaders also joined the flag-off ceremony, including L.V. Navaneeth, Chief Executive Officer of The Hindu Group; Anand Ekambaram, Vice-President (Marketing) at Casagrand; Anand Srinivasan, Regional Head – Branch Banking at AU Small Finance Bank; Alok Kumar, General Manager and Zonal Head at Union Bank of India, Chennai; M. Pazhani, Administrative Officer at LIC; and Vivek Goyal, Chief General Manager (IB), TNSO, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

The 1-km sari walk was flagged off in the presence of actor and politician Khushbu Sundar, along with Lijo Joy, Regional Manager (Chennai) of Joyalukkas.

In the competitive categories, Mohan Kumar V. clinched the top spot in the men's 10-km run, followed by Hemant Meena in second place and Rishi Malhotra in third. In the women's 10-km event, Anna Mathew secured the first position, while Nishu Priya and Vidya Jacqualine took second and third places, respectively.

In the 5-km category, Mohamad Razik finished first in the men's division, with Amal Anand and K. Sahil Ahamed securing the next two spots. Suganthi B. won the women's 5-km run, followed by Aparna Ganesan in second place and Sukanya M. in third.

The event was co-hosted by Chennai Runners in partnership with the Greater Chennai Corporation, Greater Chennai Police, TTDC, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, and the Start Run, Stop Drugs initiative. The run was presented by Casagrand and co-powered by AU Small Finance Bank, in association with Union Bank of India, Joyalukkas, and Andhra Pradesh Tourism.
