Over 40,000 Attend 5th Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival in Mamallapuram

More than 40,000 visitors attended the 5th Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival 2026, which concluded after a three-day run at the coastal heritage town of Mamallapuram, the state tourism department announced on Monday.
The festival was organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department in collaboration with Global Media Box. It took place from August 14 to August 16 at the TTDC Ocean View premises in Mamallapuram.
State Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar inaugurated the event on August 14. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Tourism Director and Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) Managing Director V P Jeyaseelan, Chengalpattu District Collector M Veerappan, and several other senior government officials.
International kite flyers from multiple countries participated in the event, flying massive kites featuring diverse shapes and vibrant colours along the coastline.
Held over the Independence Day weekend, the three-day event was designed to boost tourism in Mamallapuram while providing leisure activities for visiting families and children. In addition to the large-scale kite displays, the festival grounds featured musical and entertainment performances, along with a range of food and handicraft stalls.
