Nirmal Kumar Accuses DMK of Direct Alliance with BJP Over Tea Party Visit

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Friday, State Energy and Law Minister R Nirmalkumar alleged that the DMK has shifted from a discreet alliance to a direct alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Nirmalkumar criticized the DMK for participating in a tea party hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi. He claimed that the DMK had compromised its stance of opposing the BJP in an effort to protect its leaders and their assets, alleging that the party had become a bonded labourer for the BJP following assembly election defeats.

The minister also rejected an explanation offered by DMK MP Kanimozhi, who said she met Speaker Om Birla to discuss seating arrangements for DMK members of parliament. Nirmalkumar questioned whether attending the tea party was necessary simply to discuss parliamentary seating.

In addition, Nirmalkumar called on the DMK leadership to clarify its position on delimitation. He noted that while the DMK supported the anti-delimitation resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu assembly, the party was not openly confirming whether it would oppose the bill when presented in Parliament.

Nirmalkumar also dismissed criticism regarding the government's claim of securing one lakh crore rupees in investments, maintaining that Tamil Nadu has emerged as a major destination for investment.
