Newlywed woman dies after falling 120 feet from Kalugumalai temple hill

A 24-year-old newlywed woman died on Friday evening after falling 120 feet from the hilltop of the Kalugumalai Ucchi Pillayar temple in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM after the woman was startled by a group of monkeys she was feeding on the temple grounds.

The deceased has been identified by local authorities as Anitha, the wife of Suresh, who is an abroad worker. The young couple, who reside in South Thittangulam of Kovilpatti, had been married for just one month. They had traveled to the Kalugumalai Ucchi Pillayar temple on Friday to offer their prayers.

According to police sources, the tragic incident unfolded when Anitha was feeding bananas to the monkeys present on the temple hilltop. While she was doing so, a group of monkeys suddenly surrounded her. This sudden confrontation caused her to panic.

In her frantic attempt to escape from the surrounding animals, Anitha began running. During the panic, she fell off the hilltop, plunging approximately 120 feet. The severe impact of the fall resulted in her dying on the spot.

Upon receiving information about the tragic fall, personnel from the local fire and rescue services rushed to the spot. The rescue team worked to recover the body of the young woman from the site of the fall.

Local police officers also rushed to the temple site immediately after being notified of the accident. After securing the scene on the hilltop, the police sent Anitha's body to the Kovilpatti Government Hospital so that an autopsy examination could be conducted.

The Kalugumalai police have officially registered a case regarding the sudden death. Police officers are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident that led to the young woman's death at the temple site.
