New ₹131-Crore Chengalpattu Bus Terminus in Chengalpet to Open Within a Month

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has constructed the new ₹131-crore Chengalpattu Bus Terminus in Chengalpet district, which is scheduled to open to the public within a month. Ahead of the official inauguration, Housing and Urban Development Minister P Rajkumar visited the site to inspect the facility and review the completed infrastructure to ensure everything is ready for commuters.
Developed on a 10-acre site in the district, the new suburban bus terminus has been designed to accommodate up to 57 buses at any given time. Officials stated that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has directed that the infrastructure project be made operational at the earliest possible date to serve the public and ease transit in the region.
The transit hub spans a total area of over 40,000 square metres and will feature 46 individual bus bays. Once the terminus is fully operational, more than 600 long-distance buses will run from the facility. These services will connect passengers to various southern districts, as well as major cities and towns including Vellore, Tiruchi, Bengaluru, and Hosur.
According to officials, the facilities at the terminus have been planned specifically to improve commuter convenience and meet modern standards for public transport infrastructure. To achieve this, the terminus has been equipped with a wide range of passenger amenities. These amenities include clean drinking water facilities, toilets, spacious waiting halls, and an information centre to guide travelers.
For health and emergency needs, the site features an emergency medical centre and a pharmacy. Additionally, the complex includes food courts, restaurants, and dedicated breastfeeding rooms for mothers. Commuters using personal vehicles will also have access to car and two-wheeler parking facilities, while commercial spaces will be available within the terminus area to provide various services to the public.
