NCB Seizes 3 Kg Hashish Near Porur Toll Plaza, Arrests Couple Linked to Angoda Lokka

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chennai Zonal Unit on Monday arrested a Madurai-based couple near the Porur toll plaza and seized 3 kg of hashish valued at approximately Rs 75 lakh, which was allegedly bound for Sri Lanka.

Officers intercepted the suspects, identified as Sivagamasundari and her husband Gurumurthy, both residents of Madurai, as they were preparing to board a bus near the toll plaza. A subsequent search led to the confiscation of 3 kg of hashish, a concentrated form of cannabis resin containing the psychoactive compound THC.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sivagamasundari had close ties to Angoda Lokka, the deceased Sri Lankan gangster and drug trafficker. She had previously been arrested by the CB-CID in connection with a 2020 case involving the alleged fabrication of identity documents and other paperwork to facilitate Lokka's illegal stay in India.

Investigators stated that the seized contraband was intended to be trafficked across the border to Sri Lanka. The NCB has launched an investigation to identify the origin of the drugs, the intended recipients, and the broader transnational smuggling network involved in the operation.

According to official data, the NCB Chennai Zonal Unit has intensified its enforcement actions since the beginning of this year. The agency has seized approximately 2,916.42 kg of ganja, 77.67 kg of hashish oil, 1.79 kg of amphetamine, 13.04 kg of hashish, and 2,799 LSD blots.

These collective seizures across the region have resulted in the arrest of 48 individuals, with the total estimated market value of the confiscated narcotics reaching Rs 27.80 crore.
