Nainar Nagenthran Accuses Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar of Religious Bias

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran on Saturday accused Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar of compromising the neutrality of his constitutional office by bringing his religious identity into Assembly proceedings in Chennai.

Nagenthran alleged that Prabhakar used the Speaker's chair to seek reservations for a section of his community. In a statement posted on social media, the state BJP president argued that the Speaker's post must remain strictly above caste and religious considerations.

According to Nagenthran, using the chair to raise demands for a specific religious community compromised the neutrality and dignity of the constitutional office. He stated that the Speaker's conduct marked a departure from the established tradition of Assembly Speakers maintaining political, caste, and religious impartiality. He added that the office cannot be used to dictate terms to the Chief Minister regarding matters concerning a particular religious group.

In his social media post, which tagged the handles of Speaker Prabhakar and the Chief Minister, Nagenthran also targeted Minister Maria Wilson. He alleged that Wilson had openly invoked his Christian faith during Assembly proceedings, including presenting the state budget with a rosary and quoting Bible verses.

Nagenthran stated that while personal faith remains a private matter, bringing religious and caste identities into legislative proceedings harms the sanctity of the legislature. He accused the TVK government of permitting a sectarian approach inside the Assembly and urged both the Speaker and ministers to uphold the dignity and neutrality of the House.
